Version française

This policy explains what personal information raulincadet.com collects, why, where it is stored, who receives it and how you can exercise your rights. Questions can be sent to our Privacy Officer (section 15). This policy is available in French and in English, and both versions have the same value.

1. Scope and acceptance

This policy applies to raulincadet.com and its pages, including the Insights, the publications, the dashboards and the account features (together, the "site"). "We", "us" and "our" refer to the operator of the site. By using the site or creating an account, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the account features.

This policy does not cover websites, services or content of third parties that the site links to or embeds, including LinkedIn, Google, Microsoft and GitHub. Their own privacy policies apply.

2. Information we collect

Information received when you sign in

You can sign in with LinkedIn, Google, Microsoft or GitHub. We request only basic sign-in permissions (for Google: openid, email and profile). We receive and store:

  • your name and email address;
  • the unique account identifier assigned by the provider;
  • the basic public profile information the provider returns with it (for example a profile picture link, a username or a language preference).

We never receive or store your password. We do not keep access tokens, so the site cannot act on your provider account after you sign in. We do not access your contacts, files, emails, calendar or any other data held by the provider.

Information you provide

  • Your acceptance of the Terms and of this policy, and your newsletter choice. The newsletter is off unless you tick the box.
  • Changes you make to your name or newsletter choice on the "My account" page.
  • Comments you post on articles, with their date.
  • If you use the Canadian tech job market dashboard while signed in and choose to save a profile: the skills, province, seniority and job title you enter, and the date of your last visit.
  • Messages you send to us by email.

The salary estimator uses the values you enter to compute a result. Those values are not stored unless you save a profile.

Information collected automatically

Like any web server, ours records requests in logs (IP address, date and time, page requested, referring page, browser and device type). Cookies and similar technologies are described in section 6.

Information we do not seek

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health, financial, biometric or government identification data, or information about religion, political opinions or sexual orientation. Please do not include such information in comments or messages.

3. How we use information

We use personal information only for the following purposes, and only to the extent necessary:

  • to create and manage your account and sign you in;
  • to display your name next to your comments;
  • to provide the features you request, such as the salary estimator and saved dashboard profile;
  • to send the newsletter, only if you opted in;
  • to answer your messages and requests;
  • to keep the site secure, detect and prevent abuse, fraud and technical problems;
  • to measure audience and improve the site;
  • to comply with legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We rely on your consent, which you give when you create an account or opt in, and on what is necessary to provide the service you request. If we want to use your information for a new purpose, we will ask for your consent first, unless the law allows otherwise.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. We may use aggregated or anonymized information, which no longer identifies anyone, for research, statistics and to improve the site. Such information is not personal information.

4. Google user data

The use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your name, email address and Google account identifier are used only to sign you in and run your account on this site. They are not transferred to third parties, except as necessary to operate the site (hosting) or to comply with the law, and they are not used for advertising.

5. Estimates and automated processing

The dashboards and the salary estimator produce statistical estimates from aggregated job-posting data. They do not make any decision about you, and their results are not stored with your account unless you save a profile. Estimates are provided for information only. They are not an offer, a promise or professional advice.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

  • Essential cookies (sessionid, csrftoken) keep you signed in and protect forms against misuse. The site cannot work without them.
  • Audience measurement cookies are set by StatCounter to count visits and pages viewed, only if you accept them in the cookie banner. They are off by default.

You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Your choice is kept for 6 months in a cookie named rc_consent, then we ask again. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in.

7. Who receives information

We share personal information only as described here:

  • Service providers that operate the site on our behalf: a hosting provider in the United States that hosts the site and its database, and an email provider for messages we send or receive. They may use the information only to provide their services to us.
  • Sign-in providers. LinkedIn, Google, Microsoft and GitHub authenticate you under their own privacy policies. They know that you signed in to this site.
  • Audience measurement. If you accept audience measurement cookies, StatCounter receives technical data about your visit (for example your IP address, browser and pages viewed).
  • Embedded content. Some pages load content from third parties: citation badges from Dimensions and Altmetric on the publications page, and page styling and scripts from public content delivery networks. These services receive your IP address when your browser loads their content.
  • Affiliate links. Some pages contain links to books on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Book covers are loaded from Amazon's servers, which receive your IP address when your browser displays them. When you click such a link, you leave the site: Amazon may set its own cookies and handles your information under its own privacy policy. We receive a commission report from Amazon, but no information that identifies you.
  • Public content. Comments you post are visible to everyone, with your name.
  • Legal reasons. We may disclose information when required or permitted by law, for example to respond to a court order or a lawful request from an authority, to prevent fraud or a threat to safety, or to protect our rights.
  • Change of operator. If the site is transferred to another operator, personal information may be transferred to it, subject to this policy and to the law.

8. Transfers outside Quebec

Personal information is stored and processed outside Quebec, in particular in the United States, by the service providers listed above. These providers are bound by contractual and security commitments regarding the information they process. Information processed outside Quebec may be subject to the laws of the country where it is located, including access by its authorities.

9. How long we keep information

  • Account information, saved dashboard profile and newsletter choice: until you delete your account or ask us to.
  • Comments: until you or we remove them, or until your account is deleted.
  • Emails you send us: as long as needed to answer and follow up on them.
  • Server logs: for a limited period, for security and troubleshooting.

When you delete your account or ask us to delete your information, we delete or anonymize it within 30 days, except where the law requires or allows us to keep it, for example to resolve a dispute. We may keep a minimal record of your request to show that it was handled. Deleted information may remain in access-restricted backups until those backups are replaced in the normal backup cycle.

10. Your rights and choices

Subject to the law, you may:

  • ask to access your personal information and to know how it is used and who received it;
  • have it corrected if it is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
  • receive it in a structured, commonly used technological format;
  • withdraw your consent, for example to the newsletter. Withdrawing consent to the account itself means deleting the account;
  • have your account and data deleted. You can do it yourself on the "My account" page.

To exercise these rights, write to our Privacy Officer (section 15). We may ask you to confirm your identity before answering. We answer within 30 days. Requests are free of charge, except where the law allows reasonable fees.

You can also disconnect this site from your provider account in that provider's security settings.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may file a complaint with Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information or with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

11. Security and incidents

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards suited to the sensitivity of the information. Access to personal information is limited to what is necessary. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep a register of confidentiality incidents. If an incident presents a risk of serious harm, we will notify the affected people and the Commission d'accès à l'information, as required by law.

12. Emails and newsletter

We send the newsletter only to people who opted in. Each message identifies the sender and includes a way to unsubscribe. You can also unsubscribe at any time on the "My account" page. We may send you service messages about your account, such as an important change to this policy, even if you are not subscribed to the newsletter.

13. Children

The site is intended for adults and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when the site or the law changes. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed, and we publish a notice of the change on the site. If a change affects how we use information you already provided, we will inform you before it applies and, where required, ask for your consent again.
