- All figures describe salaries advertised in job postings. They are not salary offers, guarantees or career advice, and what a person is paid can differ.
- Source: public Canadian tech job postings collected daily. Duplicates (same title, company and city) are removed.
- Salaries: postings stating pay in CAD with an explicit yearly, monthly or hourly frequency. Hourly pay is annualized at 2,080 hours; values outside $30k–$400k are excluded. Figures are shown only above minimum sample thresholds.
- Skills are those extracted automatically from each posting. Rankings use each skill's share of all skill mentions, which limits the effect of changes in how many skills are extracted per posting. The signal of the month is tested for statistical significance, with a correction for testing many skills at once.
- Pay premiums compare medians and do not control for seniority or role: they describe the market, they do not measure the effect of learning a skill.
- Salary estimator: ridge regression on the log of the advertised salary (province, seniority, position, skills), last 4 weeks. Ranges come from cross-validated conformal prediction. Their coverage is re-measured every day on postings held out from the calculation (currently 80% for the wide range and 48% for the middle range), and the estimator is switched off if the wide range falls below 75%. This holds on average across profiles, not for every profile. Seniority is read from the job title only; titles that do not state it are kept as “unspecified”, never guessed.
- No missing value is estimated or filled in. Postings without a publication date are excluded from time-based views.
