As I have become more and more interested in tech over the past ten years, I usually take a look at the jobs market, the offer side. This post draws on my Canadian Tech Job Market Intelligence dashboard, tracking tech job postings across the country, to understand the highest paying tech skills in Canada, keeping in mind how little data that actually is.
The graphic of this post ranks fourteen tech skills by their typical (median) posted salary, each based on at least fifteen job postings, which is still a modest sample for a labor market this large. Three skills appear to separate themselves from the rest in this early data: Go, Machine Learning, and AWS, with typical salaries between $130,000 and $173,000. Go's $173,000 figure is the most striking, but it rests on only 17 postings, among the smallest samples in this ranking, so I would treat it as a signal worth watching rather than a settled finding.
A wider middle group, from Kubernetes down to SQL, clusters closely together between $110,000 and $123,000, and the ranges overlap enough that Python, Java, and Azure could just as easily be tied. APIs, REST APIs, and JavaScript trail at around $95,000, although with samples this size, that gap could narrow as more postings come in.
Could this ranking hold as the database grows, or is it too early to tell which skills genuinely pay more?
